‘It seems like he knows the world incredibly well,’ the actor tells MTV News of Joss Whedon during Comic-Con.

Chris Evans was already at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his highly anticipated Marvel film “Captain America,” but the actor made a big splash when he appeared onstage at the studio’s Saturday panel, along with the full cast lineup of “The Avengers.”

Evans took the stage alongside director Joss Whedon and fellow castmembers Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johannson, Clark Gregg, Chris Hemsworth and newcomers Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. And earlier Saturday, during the MTV News live stream, Evans talked about how excited he was to work with Whedon on the 2012 culmination of the stand-alone Marvel superhero films.

“It seems like he knows the world incredibly well. It seems like this world respects him back. It seems like he’s the guy for the job,” Evans said of the director. “He did a pass on the ‘Captain America’ script, and it was just phenomenal. All the little tweaks he made, he really knows storytelling; he really knows dialogue and script writing, and that’s always a comforting thing.”

There are still two films to be released — “Thor” and “Captain America” — before “The Avengers” hits theaters, and Evans said his attention is focused on his own film for now. He said he’s already met Downey Jr. and Whedon to talk about the film, but there is still much work to be done on “Avengers,” including the all-important script.

The potential success of bringing together these Marvel characters in one giant film could influence how comic book films are made going forward, a sentiment that was discussed during the Warner Bros. panel for “Green Lantern,” which raised the possibility of a possible DC universe equivalent. Bringing together all of the various Marvel characters — Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Hawkeye — in one film will be a challenge for Whedon, one Evans said he’s eager to see the helmer take on.

“We’ll see how they’re going to write it,” Evans said. “I’m not quite sure what Joss has in mind, but I’m sure they’ll find a way to make everyone kind of blend and have a role to play. I don’t think anyone’s going to be carrying the load.” [Source]

‘Initially in the script, Steve isn’t Captain America right away,’ Evans explained about Captain America’s appearance in the film.

When Chris Evans suits up as Captain America for “Captain America: The First Avenger,” due out next summer, there will be several incarnations of his costume throughout the movie.

“So far, so good. I think it’s a process. I’ve been working on other projects, so there hasn’t been as much time as I would have liked to be in London and kind of go through trial by error to make it the best, most comfortable thing in the world,” he told MTV News at Comic-Con in San Diego about his fittings thus far for the outfits he will wear as Captain America in the flick.

“But it’s not bad. It’s a World War II movie, so I think a little bit of a cumbersome feel to it and something that’s a bit chunkier … not only serves the time period, I think it looks better,” he added. “It’s not this sleek spandex suit. It looks like something you might wear in the ’40s in the middle of a war.”

In order to get it right in the film, Steve Rogers and the military must tackle a few uniforms before we get the chance to see the Captain America we all know. “There’s a couple stages and initially in the script, Steve isn’t Captain America right away,” he explained. “He gets the injection and isn’t asked to go to war right off the bat. He’s used in different areas, so he has different stages of the suit. I don’t think he actually jumps into the final suit until the third act of the film.”

So, does that mean Captain America’s famous shield will also have a few different looks in the film? “Well, during the USO tour, there’s obviously a different shield,” Evans explained. “And he goes on a couple missions, he goes AWOL and kind of takes the USO shield. And he’s kind of allowed to be this soldier and they outfit him with the new uniform. They decide to outfit him with an updated shield.” [Source]

Joe Johnston Hugo Weaving and Chris Evans sat down with EW.com for a video interview. Unfortunately, I am unable to embed the video for you to view. What I have done instead, is transcribe portions of the interview. I left out the questions and answers from Johnston and Evans that we have all heard over and over.

This from EW.com…

You guys are just beginning to shoot this movie. Correct?

Johnston: Correct.

EW: How far along are you into it?

Johnston, Evans and Weaving:(In Harmony) Two weeks.

EW: What has it been like to play Captain America?

Evans: It’s been fantastic. It’s a little, you know it’s intimidating. You know, coming to the set and seeing the magnitude of everything and remembering who your working with, the caliber of the director and actors that you have around you, it’s, it can be daunting at times. But I’m trying to just look at it as another job.

EW: Your playing sort of the embodiment of all that is great about the country.

Evans: Sure.

Weaving:(talking to Evans and smiling)We don’t want to pressure you or anything.

EW: And your playing Red Skull.

Weaving:Johann Shmidt is an ex SS officer who has his own branch of the German Army under his command. He’s a scientist who is interested in developing armaments and also developing and harnessing the power of a, of a, sort of unusual energy source which has spiritual connections.

Johnston: And whats the name of his branch?

Weaving:HYDRA.

Johnston:HYDRA.

Hawksblueyes: This sounds interesting. Was Weaving refering to The Cosmic Cube before mentioning HYDRA? [Source]

‘I think you want the audience … to look at him and see the little guy,’ actor says of his character in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’

In “Captain America: The First Avenger,” not only will Steve Rogers’ suit and shield go through a few transformations, the man behind Captain America will have to transform from scrappy wannabe soldier to full-fledged action hero. And the movie’s star, Chris Evans, says that the studio has figured out the perfect way to do it, using technology to shrink him down to play the smaller than Captain America-sized Steve.

“They got some great stuff going on right now. Initially they were going to do all body replacement — hire another actor completely and have this skinny body do the scene and do face replacement,” Evans told MTV News at Comic-Con in San Diego. “But I guess the first couple tests weren’t what they were hoping it would be, and then they decided to go with just shrinking me down. They did a couple tests. It looks fantastic and it’s really going to be a big transition.”

While Evans will eventually end up playing a beefier hero by the film’s end, he hopes that when fans watch the flick, they still can relate to the skinny young man Captain America once was. “It’s absolutely one character,” he explained. “I think he’s little Steve through and through, even after he goes through the transformation. I think you want the audience, even in the final frame of the film, to look at him and see the little guy.

“That’s what I think is endearing,” he added. “That’s why I think it’s great, it’s an origin story. You get to understand how he has come to appreciate the gift he’s been given.” [Source]

One of the biggest reveals to occur during this year’s Comic-Con was the first look at Chris Evans in his “Captain America” costume shown during Marvel’s movie panel Saturday evening.

Marvel’s teaser only gave us a brief look at Evans in the familiar red, white, and blue suit, so when we got some time to chat with the “Captain America” lead, we had to ask: how much more will we see him in costume during the film? [WARNING: Potential SPOILERS!]

“There’s a couple stages [of the suit],” Evans told MTV News. “Initially in the script, Steve [Rogers] isn’t Captain America right away. He gets the injection and isn’t asked to go to war right off the bat, he’s used in different areas and different facets. So he has a couple different stages of the suit. I don’t think he jumps in the final suit until the third act of the film.”

According to Evans, those various stages of the costume will involve some time as a USO performer — a role which inspires the look of the costume. That look involves a few different versions of Cap’s shield, too.

“During the USO tour, there’s obviously a different shield,” said Evans. “He goes on a couple missions, goes AWOL, and takes the USO shield. Once he’s allowed to be this soldier and they outfit him with a new uniform, they decide to outfit him with an updated shield.”

As for the costume itself, Evans shared some details about why the look and feel of the popular red, white, and blue suit was appropriate for the 1940s setting of the film.

“I’ve been working on another project, so there hasn’t been enough time as I would’ve liked to be in London and go through trial-by-error to make it the most comfortable thing in the world,” said Evans of the suit. “But it’s not bad. It’s a World War II movie, so a little bit of a cumbersome feel to it and something that’s a bit chunkier not only serves the time period, but looks better — it’s not this sleek, spandex suit. It looks like something you might wear in the ’40s in the middle of a war.” [Source]

‘Captain America just changes things, and there’s really no off switch once you walk down that road,’ actor says of his most high-profile role.

For most actors, one would think the idea of tackling the role of a famed superhero like Captain America would be the opportunity of a lifetime. An “easy yes,” as they say in the biz. However, for the newly anointed star-spangled-superhero Chris Evans, the decision to take on the iconic character was a lot more complicated than simply saying yes or no to the part.

“No, it wasn’t an easy yes,” Evans told MTV News when he stopped by the MTV News/ MySpace Comic-Con livestream. “I get nervous. I get nervous in things like this [referring to interviews and public appearances]. Captain America means a lot of this.”

Evans admitted that the decision was a particularly tough one because he was in a really happy place in his life and his career, and wasn’t sure if he was ready to be catapulted into such a specific, fans-obsessing-over-every-detail-type spotlight. “[Playing] Captain America just changes things, and there’s really no off switch once you walk down that road.”

Evans went on to say, however, that his reservations don’t in any way damper his excitement for making the film.

“There’s nothing wrong with the project,” Evans explained. “I love the people involved, the character, the script, Hugo [Weaving]. There was nothing wrong there, it was just about the lifestyle change and whether or not I was willing to do it.”

Evans acknowledges the work he has cut out for him, but he’s trying to get to a place where he can just enjoy himself.

“There’s no turning back now,” he said. “I’m just trying to make all the negatives positives and just enjoy the ride.” [Source]

Captain America: The First Avenger marks a new beginning for actor Chris Evans and Marvel Comic’s as well. I have reason to believe that Evans will be the face of the entire movie line. From the 2012 release of the Avengers movie to Hulk, Iron Man 3, or any other future Marvel release, Captain America will have a big part in it. Starting with the cast of ‘The First Avenger’ Chris Evans wasn’t their first choice for the lead.

Several others topped Marvels list for the lead roll as Steve Rogers. Like Garrett Hedlund, John Krasinski, Mike Vogel etc. but a busy work load for some of these up and coming stars would keep them from meeting Marvel’s demands. Marvel needed someone who wasn’t in such high demand at the time, but still maybe have the appeal to become an in house super star. So they look no further then their very own ‘Human Torch’, Chris Evans. A good young actor whose yet to play a lead in a blockbuster film but good enough to do so.

With Spider-Man belonging to Sony, Captain America will be Marvel films franchise superhero. Robert Downy Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson are too big of stars to commet for a 9 movie deal such as Chris Evans. With Hollywood not exactly knocking down his door, I think Chris Evans will embrace being not only Captain America but the face of Marvel movie’s for a long time. Get ready to see Chris Evans aka Captain America’s face everywhere! Lunch boxes, BookBags, Happy Meal Toys, action figures, and everything else you can think of. If you ask me Marvel made out pretty cheap for what they are about to make off of the movie franchise. If the movie hits and hits hard which it will how long will they be able to keep Evans in the Marvel Universe! P.S. I guess Chris Evans movie career is alot like Steve Rogers, started off small and weak about to become big and strong. [Source]

CHRIS Evans is having a hard time handling his shield!

The Hollywood hunk is playing Captain America in a new movie take on the comic book tale but not all is going to plan.

“The hardest part is the shield,” says Chris of his character’s famous star-spangled accessory.

“We’ve been testing a lot of shields to find one with the right look but the one we have is pretty heavy.

“I’m not sure I can throw it that far! Hopefully they’ll have some sort of stunt shield when it comes to actually chucking it!”

Evans recently admitted he spent “a couple of weeks” deciding whether he wanted to play Captain America.

“It was a couple of weeks of weighing up all the options,” he said earlier this year. “There was certainly a period where I was shying away from the movie.

“It’s intimidating. It’s pretty daunting. There’s certainly a life-changing role there and that was part of the process. Did I want to take this on?

“I like supporting roles, I like the way my life is now and I have the best of both worlds. This would potentially change that. But you know what? This could be a good thing.” [Source]

Chris Evans has expressed his delight over the costume for Captain America: The First Avenger.

“It’s an amazing costume,” Evans told Empire.

“Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it’s tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top – and given the fact that the movie takes place in the ’40s and ’50s – they’ve done a really good job of making it look really cool.

“I think everyone that’s going to see it is going to say, ‘Okay, well done. Well done. I think they got the costume right. The casting they completely ruined, but the costume they nailed.’”

No photos or stills of Evans in his costume have been released as of yet. [Source]
