Sypnosis
At John Hughes High School, the students are the same as just about every other teenager in a teen movie. The popular jock, Jake (Chris Evans), takes a bet from Austin, the cocky blonde guy (Eric Christian Olsen), that he can transform Janey, the pretty ugly girl (Chyler Leigh), into the prom queen before the prom. But two people are trying to stop Jake from succeeding: his evil sister, Catherine, the cruelest girl in school (Mia Kirshner), and Priscilla, the bitchy cheerleader (Jaime Pressly). And all of their friends are the same as any other teen movie: Areola, the naked foreign exchange student (Cerina Vincent), Les, the beautiful weirdo (Riley Smith), Malik, the token black guy (Deon Richmond), the desperate virgins (Cody McMains, Samm Levine, and Sam Huntington), Amanda Becker, the perfect girl (Lacey Chabert), Ricky, Janey's obsessed best friend (Eric Jungmann), and Sadie, the VERY old undercover reporter (Beverly Polcyn).
Trvia
Paul Gleason reprises his role of Richard Vernon in The Breakfast Club, going so far as to wear the exact same shirt he wore the first time.

The original title was "Teen Movie", but this was ditched as the movie got more and more... un-teen. Then the title was changed to "NOT A Teen Movie" because of this. Then it was changed to "Not Another Teen Movie" because of all the parodies and the fact that there were so many teen movies before it.

During the big football game near the end, when a bunch of players run off the field, the name on one of the players' shirts is EXTRA.

Chris Evans sang "Janie's Got a Gun" at the stadium. During "Prom Tonight", the cast actually sings. No additional/backup voices were added.

Jake singing "Janie's Got a Gun" is an allusion to Heath Ledger's character in 10 Things I Hate About You

After Jake leaves the prom, when he is running across the busy street, the store on the corner is "Spicoli's Stereo and TV Repair", a reference to Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) says that his father is a TV repairman.

In Russia, the film is entitled "Not a Children's Movie".

Quotes: Jake Wyler
Jake: No, not Janey Briggs. She's got glasses. And a ponytail. Ugh, she's got paint on her overalls. What is that?

Priscilla: I need t-to-the-fourth-power-y
Jake: What?
Priscilla: Time to talk to you.

Jake: She's right... maybe you should get on that plane to Paris. Cause if you stay, we really only have the summer, then I go to college and we'll talk on the phone and spend the occasional weekend together which is nice. But chances are one night I'm gonna get wrecked and have unprotected sex with some girl in my dorm. You'll find her thong and call me a slut... I'll call you a cock-tease and we'll break up. So when you really think about it, what's the point?

Janey: Jake! How did you get in here? I thought Dad bolted the door.
Jake: There's a big hole in the side of your house.
